“Scratched out "the" in the title”
I decided last year while listening to The Lincoln Highway in 2023 that Towles is my favorite writer. And this year I'll get to see him at the B&N in Union Square, NYC. I've bought his big three books (and the fourth is the reason for the B&N visit), but I saw on his website he's also written a few short fiction, when I saw that this week I decided to be a true completist. Goal is to buy them all and get them all signed and personalized. Signed at B&N Union Square, April 24, 2024. He showed up early and I got to go to the back where we had come in (since we were sitting up front) and he chatted with me, got a picture, and I told him how I tracked down ID16. He was so kind and welcoming and approachable and genuinely "normal". He told me the Paris Review made a typo in the title so he scratched it out on mine!

I thought I'd already found all of Towles' books, and I know this one will be included in the upcoming Table For Two (ID15) book. But on a forum online (while searching to confirm I have his full set), I saw that he had done a limited print run of this back a while ago. There was one other copy for sale, but it was in terrible condition. So this was a very fun splurge.

After reading his short story "The Line" (in ID2), I added a new tab to K's Reading spreadsheet where I track all my reading. I hate to admit it, but something about reading something that didn't "count" was painful so I decided to start tracking them. I'm really excited for this set! (had to repurchase because the preorder went to the Philly house)

So excited for this collection of short stories. I haven't looked too closely to see what's included besides Eve in Hollywood. I bought two so Alejandra and I could go see him in person at the B&N at Union Square in NYC. But I'm sad that they won't have personalized signing line, I wanted to get him to sign a few of his other short stories (eg ID1 and ID2). Wish we were already in SF because he is doing personalized signings there. But I know he'll come back there and I'll catch him then! I'm also very excited because he said a bunch of the stories take place in NYC around 9/11 which is where one of my characters in my architects novel takes place.

I wonder if AbeBooks and Ebay have some kind of feature where they alert people with books that people have but haven't posted publicly on these websites because I searched and searched for this book last week and couldn't find it anywhere, now one copy pops up! No complaints, but interesting (Gentleman in Moscow tv show might also be reason unrelated to me). Same exact thing happened to me with ID368 and ID369 in Centralverse List.
