My take
Honestly, it was simply bigger in my head than what it turned out to be. It's truly "fine". The first 30 minutes where he's figuring out the cupboard is genuinely enjoyable and fun. The rest feels kind of small. And unlike the other 90s kids movies we've been watching lately like Sandlot, Flubber, Free Willy, etc; this one just doesn't hold up. Glad we watched it so I can have an adult opinion on it (and watch none of the kids actually make it through the movie haha). But wouldn't recommend.
