I remember exactly where I was when I found out there was an extended edition of the soundtracks, similar to the extended editions of the movies themselves. I was in my little windowless office on Whitney Ave in New Haven studying and writing away about the financial crisis. I was trying to build a playlist on Apple Music for all of the LOTRs soundtracks and the first few searches showed these extended editions that I thought were simply different covers. But then I either opened them up or saw the run time and realized that there was a lot more to them! Life changing moment haha. There's a good reason these are three of my top eight of all time.
